Plan on joining us for a couple of days away from your dish duty, mom duty, laundry duty or any other duty that doesn’t involve fun.
We start the trip off with a light breakfast on board for you ladies. You may bring along a beverage of choice if you would like to enhance your riding pleasure. We make a comfort stop at the rest area at the Michigan state line. Our first stop will be for lunch at Clementine’s in New Haven, Michigan. This is an old bank that they have renovated to a restaurant. They don’t normally take reservations but when they found out it was a motorcoach full of women….how could you say no? We will have a light lunch of a turkey croissant and a cup of homemade soup along with a beverage.
We step it up a bit in the fun department for our next stop will be at the Express Yourself Art Barn in Fennville. Imagine a beautiful old barn, with soaring ceiling and hand hewn beams built in 1880. Imagine that is has been turned into an art studio, where we will be making our own arts and craft item to take home!
Once we have dimmed the light on our crafty side we head to Saugatuck and let you ladies loose! You will be free to explore and shop the quaint downtown area of Saugatuck, Michigan. You will find many small locally owned shops to find all sorts of treasures. One stop you will want to add to your list is the Saugatuck Drugstore/Soda Fountain. This has been in existence since 1913 and is an old-fashioned soda fountain that makes sodas and milkshakes the old fashion way.
We then take our tired shopped out selves and head to our hotel, Country Inn and Suites in Holland, Michigan. Here we will get settle in and give you ladies time rest up and get ready for dinner. Our dinner will be at Alpen Rose Restaurant in Holland. Alpen Rose has been serving the locals for 20 years in Holland. The restaurant boast beautiful, hand crafted wood work imported from Europe throughout the restaurant with inviting and comfortable dining areas. After dinner we head back to our hotel for the evening to get a good night’s rest.
You will wake up with a song in your heart and breakfast on the table. We will have a full hot breakfast buffet on the table for you. Once we have re-fueled our tanks we hop on the coach for a short tour of Holland. We will be greeted by our authentic Holland guide who will fill us in on the history of Holland.
After our guide we are going to split into two groups and one group will go to school at Candleology at Moynihan Gallery. Here we will be making our own candles from start to finish. You will be choosing from over 100 fragrances to make your own. You will even design your own name and label. They will then package them up and we take them home.
The other half of the ladies will be attending cooking school at Fustinis learning a four course meal for lunch. We start off with appetizer, salad, main course and then of course dessert. Upon completion of each classroom we will switch places.
Then let the tour begin! We will be taken on a guided tour of the Dutch Village and you will see the different shops, the wooden shoes, Delft dishes, Museum and Barn. We will end our tour with a wooden shoe dance demonstration. You will then be able to try your hand or should I say feet at a class to learn how to clog. You will have free run of the Dutch Village to return to the shops to check out their wares and don’t forget the fudge and cheese shops. There is also an Outlet Mall next door that you will be able to go and explore. You will have a wristband on and it will allow you to come and go from the Dutch Village as you so choose. If you have an adventurous side to you they do have a Theme Park with a Draaimolen – a 1924 Carousel which you may ride. They have scheduled demonstrations throughout the day of Delftware Making, Wooden Shoe Carver, and Cheese Making . They also have the Carillion Bell Music on the hour with the chimes.
Once we have shopped ourselves silly we will hop on the coach, put our feet up, watch a chick flick, enjoy a snack and head for home. We make a quick comfort stop in route and will have everyone safely delivered home early evening.
