Feb. 10, Thursday:
This will be an early start today because we are going to drive the beautiful 140 miles from Ft Lauderdale to Key West. The Florida Keys are a chain-like cluster of about 1700 islands beginng at the southeastern tip of the Florida peninsula, about 15 miles south of Miami, and extend in a gentle arc south-southwest and then westward to Key West, and on to the uninhabited Dry Tortugas. The islands lie along the Florida Straits, dividing the Atlantic Ocean to the east from the Gulf of Mexico to the west, and defining one edge of Florida Bay. At the nearest point, the southern tip of Key West is just 94 miles from Cuba. The Islands are joined by causeways and bridges. “Buddy” will be with us all day long and tell you the facts and fiction of the Keys. Once we get to Key West we will have lunch and take the on/off Trolley Ride and Tour of the Island. You can use this all day long to explore every part of Key West. That evening we will watch the Sunset from the famous Mallory Square before returning to our coach and heading back to Ft Lauderdale. BL
