Day 1:  Sept 16:  Wednesday:  Our day will begin early as we travel through IL, IN, OH and PA before stopping for the night in Monroeville, PA at the Hampton Inn.   B

Day 2:  Sept 17:  Thursday:   We will arrive in Washington D.C. around noon and will go to The National Mall and visit your choice of the Smithsonian Museums.  Lunch will be on your own at one of the many museums’ including the National Museum of American History, Air & Space, Museum of Natural History, Museum of the American Indian, Gallery of Art and many more.  Tonight our dinner will at Carmine’s, one of our favorite restaurants and a treat not to be missed.  Check into Courtyard Old Town Hotel in Alexandria for the next 4 nights.  BD

Day 3:  Sept 18:  Friday:  A good breakfast in our hotel will start our day off right before we meet up with our guide, who will spend the day with us, showing us the sites of Washington D.C.  Our first stop will be the White House for photo opts!!!!  We will then travel to the “The President’s Palace”, as the White House was called in the beginning.  Even if we cannot go inside, we will get plenty of exterior photos and you never know who might be outside!!!    Then it’s off to the ‘NEW’ Capitol Visitor’s Center on Capital Hill   The Capitol Visitor Center welcomes visitors to the seat of American government.  At nearly 580,000 square feet, the CVD is the largest project in the Capitol’s 215 year history and is approximately three quarters the size of the Capitol itself.  The entire facility is located underground on the east side of the Capitol so as not to detract from the appearance of the Capitol.  Features include an exhibition gallery that features the House and Senate while in session, orientation theaters, a 550 seat cafeteria, gift shops and restrooms all within a secure public area.   We will also do a stop at the United States Library of Congress and a chance to take pictures of the Supreme Court Building.  During our drive through Embassy Row on our way to the Washington National Cathedral, we will see the homes of the powerful and socially elite of our early government but after the Great Depression, many of the families went broke and today this area is known as Embassy Row.   The Washington National Cathedral stands higher than the Washington Monument and is the 6th largest church in the world is situated on 57 acres and took 83 years to build.  Our guide will take us on a driving tour of to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial.  Dinner this evening will be at Tony & Joe’s Seafood Place at the Washington Harbour on the waterfront in Georgetown before returning to our hotel for the evening.    BD

Day 4:  Sept 19:  Saturday:   Breakfast this morning will be at our hotel before departing for another day filled with the wonders of Washington D.C.  This morning a visit to the Newseum, the only interactive museum of news.  Go behind the scenes and try your hand at being a television news anchor or radio sportscaster.  Experience the news of today as it happens on a 126 foot long, 10 foot high Video News Wall displaying today’s news from around the world.  Relive the great new stories of past!!!  Lunch is going to be a Lunch Cruise on the Spirit of Washington as we sail along the Potomac River and see the historic  and famous sites of our Nation’s Capital from a different perspective.  After our cruise our guide will continue showing us the memorials of Washington DC.  We will stop at the National World War ll Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial and the Korean War Veterans Memorial before enjoying dinner this evening at the Overwood Wood-Fired Grill.   Back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep.     BLD

Day 5:  Sept 20:  Sunday:  Breakfast at our hotel before stopping at the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Statue) One of the largest bronze statues ever cast depicts the American Flag being raised on Mount Suribachi during World War ll and commemorates all Marines who have died in battle since 1775.  Next stop is the Air Force Memorial.  Central to the design are three stainless steel spires which soar skyward of which the highest spires ascent 270’ above the 3-acre elevated inscription walls and an open glass Chamber of Contemplation that overlooks the nation’s capital.  We will enjoy lunch on our own at the Pentagon City Mall, including a short break for some shopping.  Our first stop this afternoon will be the Arlington National Cemetery for a tram ride guided tour of hallowed ground.  This is the final resting place for President John Kennedy, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Audi Murphy, Joe Lewis and many of the brave that helped keep our country free.  We will also watch the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown.  Dinner this evening will be at the King Street Blues before returning to our hotel for the evening.  BD

Day 6:  Sept 21: Monday:  Breakfast will be in our hotel this morning before departing for a day of touring Gettysburg.  We will begin our tour at the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center where we will visit their Museum, a Film and the Cyclorama to help explain the happenings around the Gettysburg area.  We will have lunch at the visitor center us before we board our bus with a step on guide as we tour of the National Military Park.  Mid afternoon we will drop you off for a short shopping experience in downtown Gettysburg.  Dinner tonight will be at the General Pickett’s Buffet.  Our home tonight will be the Hampton Inn of Gettysburg.     BD  

Day 7:  Sept 22: Tuesday:  Breakfast will be in our hotel before departing for our overnight home in Toledo, OH.   B       

Day 8: Sept 23:  Wednesday:  We start our journey back to Illinois!!  We will arrive back in the Peru area late afternoon.     B
